Daily Routine
Please tell someone, your safety means a lot to us, and we are here to listen. You have the right to talk to the office of the child and youth advocate, group home staff, child in care worker or someone else you feel comfortable speaking with. You’ll see the advocate’s number and information on the Resource Page of this website as well as posted in every group home. The contact number for the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate is: 1-902-368-5630.
Yes, we’ll make sure you have everything you need to take care of yourself. If you need something special, just let us know—we’ll work with you to get it.
We’ll make sure you have all the basics—like a toothbrush, hairbrush, elastics, deodorant, and anything else you need to feel clean and comfortable.
We’ll help you make the appointments and take you there and back. You won’t have to figure it out alone. We might still talk with your parents sometimes, and they can be part of things too if that helps you.

There are lots of food choices at the group home, and you can pack your own lunch and snacks each day. If you need help, we’re happy to help you pack. We also make sure everything is safe for kids with allergies or special diets. Some schools also offer lunch options that we can look at together.
Your medication will be kept in a safe place, and staff will give it to you at the right time. We’ll make sure you get what you need, when you need it.

We’ll figure that out together. Bedtime can be different for everyone, and we’ll work with you to find a routine that helps you feel rested.

Yes, absolutely. You can bring photos, stuffed animals, blankets—whatever helps you feel more at home.
It’s best to keep your things to yourself and let others do the same. That way, nothing gets lost or damaged, and everyone’s belongings stay safe.

That can happen sometimes. If it does, we’ll help you talk it through and try to work things out. You don’t have to handle it on your own.
